Dahlonega Weather Tuesday 340p Snow Update

Just wanted to provide an update on the latest thinking and trends.  An arctic cold front is knocking on the door and there has been plenty of snow behind the front across portions of MS, TN, KY and parts of Alabama.  Currently it’s in the upper teens in NW Alabama so you get the idea on how strong this cold front is.

To the question of the day.  Is it going to snow?  I think that answer is a yes BUT precip is still going to be very limited.  Either way expect precip to probably start off as some rain or rain snow mix before changing over to all snow after dark.  I’m thinking most of us end up with dusting to an inch.  I only throw an inch out there because trends have been to add a bit more moisture.  Places along and north and west of Lumpkin can expect 1-2 inches.  Also places further south towards Atlanta and further east towards the SC line can expect 1-2 inches.  The way this system is approaching, the Lumpkin and White county areas will likely be in a lesser precip area thanks to downsloping off the mountains.

So to recap…

Precip start time:  4-6pm

Precip type: Rain or rain/snow mix (should be all snow in the higher elevations such as Suches.) before changing to all snow.

Precip Ending:  Light snow may persist until 3-5am Wednesday.

Accumulation:  Dusting to 1 inch for most of us (Dahlonega) with 1-2 inches or more places north and west and way south and way east of Lumpkin county.

Travel Issues:  With temps quickly falling below freezing tonight expect there to be some travel issue with possibly ice and snow as temps drop in the upper teens.

Thanks for reading and updates will flow as needed.

Jason
