Friday Dahlonega Weather Forecast Update 1/20/2017…*** Heavy Rain and Thunderstorms***

Good Friday night everyone!   It’s been a while since I posted a real update as it’s been a crazy week sending my first born off to college out of state.  But I’m back in the saddle now and should be able to update more often.

The main weather story is the threat of severe weather late Saturday night and then again Sunday afternoon.  A strong upper level low will track across the deep south sparking a strong surface low to develop just to our north.  Rain will come in multiple waves with the main severe threat being after midnight Saturday night and then again late Sunday afternoon. Right now the primary threat is strong and gusty winds but I wouldn’t be surprised to see a tornado warning somewhere across northern Georgia before all is said and done.  I don’t think this is a major tornado threat for our area but primarily a severe thunderstorm threat.

Like I said the rain will come in multiple waves with the first one arriving towards noon on Saturday lasting into the afternoon.  Then round 2 arrives after midnight Saturday night and it could contain some severe thunderstorms.  Then round 3 arrives arrives Sunday afternoon as the Falcons hand it to the Packers.  Then more showers are likely late Sunday night into Monday as the low moves off to the NE.

All in all I expect most of the area to get 1-3 inches of rain from this system.  Also the warm temps will continue through Sunday before we cool off a bit on Monday.

Now regarding winter that has gone on a serious vacation.  Pretty much all indications are winter will return around Thursday/Friday next week. So enjoy the warmth while we have it because it’s not gonna last.

Ill be posting updates tomorrow as the severe threat evolves.

Until then… Goodnight!

Jason
