The National Weather Service In Peachtree City Has Issued A Freeze Watch…Which Is In Effect From Late Sunday Night Through Monday Morning.

* Locations…Portions Of Northeast Georgia.

* Temperatures…Upper 20s To Around Freezing.

* Timing…Falling To Freezing Around 4 Am Sunday Night And Lasting Through 10 Am.

* Impacts…The Early Season Blooming Of Foliage Across The State Will Result In Damage To Sensitive Vegetation With Temperatures Below Freezing.

*** Winter Weather Advisory – Higher Elevations ***

The NWS has issued a winter weather advisory for the higher elevations.  This is in line with my forecast for our “snow” which is still unchanged with just flurries and snow showers for the bulk of Dahlonega with no accumulations.  If you live along or North or northeast of the spine of the Apps, minor accumulations are possible.  Yet another tease but no please for Dahlonega.

The National Weather Service In Peachtree City Has Issued A Winter Weather Advisory For Light Snow And Black Ice…Which Is In Effect Until 10 Am Est Thursday.

* Locations…Parts Of North Georgia…Generally North Of A Line From Chatsworth To Jasper To Cleveland…And Also For Dade And Walker Counties Mainly Along The Lookout Mountain Ridge.

* Hazard Types…Light Snow And Black Ice.

* Accumulations…Up To 1 Inch In The Higher Elevations Of Northeast Georgia…Generally Above 2000 Feet. Also…Up To A Half Inch Along Lookout Mountain Ridge In Northwest Georgia.

* Timing…Through 10 Am Thursday.

* Impacts…Roads Will Become Slick…Especially On Bridges And Overpasses.

* Winds…West To Northwest 15 To 25 Mph With Higher Gusts.

* Temperatures…Falling Into The Lower 30s…Except Upper 20s In The Higher Elevations.

The NWS is highlighting our snow potential.   I think any accumulating snows will be confined to areas along and north of the spine of the Apps.  Below are the details of their special weather statement.

A Strong Storm System Will Move Through The Region Wednesday Into Wednesday Evening With Colder Air Rushing Into North Georgia In Its Wake. In Addition…Light Rain Will Continue As A Strong Upper Level System Moves Over The Area. Eventually Late Wednesday Night…This Rain Will Mix With Snow As Temperatures Drop Into The Mid And Upper 30s. For The Highest Elevations Of The Mountains…The Mix Will Eventually Change Over To All Snow And Accumulate With Temperatures Continuing To Fall Near Freezing. For The Northeast Mountains…Accumulations Of Around An Inch With Locally Higher Values As High As 2 Inches Will Be Possible Before All Is Said And Done Late Thursday. THURSDAY.

* LOCATIONS...NORTH AND CENTRAL GEORGIA.

* WINDS...SOUTHWEST WINDS 25 TO 30 MPH WITH GUSTS UP TO 40 MPH.

* TIMING...1 AM WEDNESDAY UNTIL 1 AM THURSDAY...POSSIBLY LONGER FOR THE HIGHER ELEVATIONS OF NORTH GEORGIA.

* IMPACTS...NUMEROUS TREES MAY BE DOWNED DUE TO THE WET SOILS. DRIVING MAY BECOME DIFFICULT AND LOOSE OBJECTS MAY ALSO BE   BLOWN AROUND IF NOT SECURED.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A WIND ADVISORY MEANS THAT SUSTAINED WIND SPEEDS OF AT LEAST 20 MPH...OR GUSTS TO 35 MPH OR STRONGER ARE
EXPECTED. WINDS THIS STRONG CAN MAKE DRIVING DIFFICULT...ESPECIALLY FOR HIGH PROFILE VEHICLES. USE EXTRA CAUTION.

If you live in a flood prone area be alert as an additional 2″ or so of additional rain is expected from now through Wednesday.  This is on top of the 1.80″ we have already received.

* From 6 Pm Today Through 6 Pm Wednesday

* Rainfall Amounts Of 1 To 3 Inches Are Possible Through Wednesday…And Locally Higher Amounts Can Be Expected…Particularly Across The Atlanta Metro Area And Northeast Georgia Mountains.

* Periods Of Heavy Rain Will Combine With The Already Saturated Conditions To Allow Large Amounts Of Run Off Into Nearby Streams…Creeks And Rivers…And Minor Flooding Is Possible. Isolated Flash Flooding Will Also Be Possible If Heavy Rain Repeatedly Moves Over The Same Area. Storm Drains And Ditches May Become Quickly Clogged With Debris And Cause Extensive Street Flooding And Road Ponding.

* Hazard Types…A Mix Of Rain And Freezing Rain.

* Timing…Areas Of Light Freezing Rain Or Freezing Drizzle Will Develop Across The Advisory Area After Midnight Tonight. The Precipitation Will Become More Widespread After Daybreak Monday As Well As Become Mixed With Light Rain Or Drizzle. By Late Afternoon On Monday The Rain And Freezing Rain Mix Will Have Transitioned To All Rain.

The National Weather Service In Peachtree City Has Issued A High Wind Warning…Which Is In Effect Until 1 Pm Est This Afternoon. The Wind Advisory Is No Longer In Effect.

* Locations…Portions Of North Georgia…Especially At Elevations Above 1000 Feet.

* Winds…Sustained Southeast 25 To 35 Mph With Gusts To 45 Mph. Winds In Higher Elevations Could Gusts To 50 Mph. Winds Will Begin To Diminish During The Mid To Late Afternoon Hours.

* Timing…The Highest Winds Until 1 Pm This Afternoon.

* Impacts…Shallow Rooted Trees May Be Downed More Easily Due To The Very Saturated Soils And Potential Ice And Snow Accumulations. Driving May Become Difficult…Especially In The Higher Terrain. Loose Objects May Also Be Blown Around If Not Secured.
